Type 1 Diabetes(T1D) is a manageable disease if you have the proper diet, food supply and insulin. This T1D project will support 41 people living with T1D, but lacking a constant food supply, glucose readers and insulin. During the COVID19 quarantine, more persons than usual have been taken to the hospital because of their glucose levels not being regulated properly. They lack food because the quarantine has stopped all non-essential jobs in communities that depend on money daily to eat.
Challenge
The current reported rate of T1D for the country is 3% which seems low and manageable, but the access to resources and monetary means for people living with T1D is a major roadblock. High poverty in the rural areas is at 98% with 88.6% of the population being subsistence farmers. People living with T1D are stigmatized and marginalized for their lack of energy and thoughts that the disease can spread. Therefore, without jobs they lack money for food which is extremely necessary for their case.
Long-Term Impact
To provide food to 41 T1D positive people for 3 weeks allowing them to regulate their glucose levels and stay healthy during the COVID19 Quarantine. To provide non-food items for improved hygiene and resources to cook the food. To uplift the communities hope in knowing they are not forgotten and people do care about their health and well-being. To provide resources for the members of Wellness Organization to improve and regulate their health.
