While a lot of the world is coming out of lockdown, Venezuela is experiencing a uncontrollable and devastating spike in COVID cases, affecting millions of children. For many of these children, their only lifeline comes from local social programmes run by our partners. By equipping them with WASH (soap, water tanks, water purification tablets and filters), and PPE we will help mitigate COVID-19 transmission and ensure food safety for low-income families in Venezuela.
Challenge
Most Venezuelans do not have access to regular supply of drinking water. More than 4.3M do not have access to WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene). Without clean and safe water it is difficult for care homes and soup kitchens to maintain hygiene standards to run their operations.These centers are ill-equipped to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 and other preventable diseases. Furthermore, without the continued operability of these centers many vulnerable children are at risk of malnutrition.
Long-Term Impact
This project will improve sanitation amongst children and their carers, thus preventing the transmission of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. We will use our local partner NGOs' premises, logistics, distribution chain, and teams to impact more than 15,000 children with our program. This public health intervention goes beyond the prevention and mitigation of current pandemic, and once established it will improve the overall hygiene and health of many communities in Venezuela.
