THE WATER NEEDS HAVE BEEN FULFILLED through collaboration. Our greatest needs at this time: tuition and uniforms for incoming and outgoing students, and materials. This school practices the Five Strategies of The Virtues Project and has become the highest-scoring school in their district. They have eliminated corporal punishment and have created a peaceful school environment. Truancy has been drastically reduced and parents are engaged in school and virtues activities.
Challenge
There are 250 orphans who attend this school and many do not have any means and are unable to pay for basic supplies and uniforms. Schools do not have resources to provide materials, supplies, uniforms and tuition funds for these children to advance to secondary school. Dedicated teachers have adopted many of the orphans, but often can't afford to pay their foster children's tuition for secondary school. Children who have demonstrated success in primary school cannot continue to progress.
Long-Term Impact
Covering the costs of these basic needs will help provide these children and their teachers with a healthy and more optimal learning environment - the supplies needed for students and teachers, and a realistic path to further education. Long-term, these will help ensure the continued declines in truancy, absenteeism, pregnancy; and continue the academic achievements they have been experiencing using the Five Strategies of The Virtues Project - and the positive impact on local communities.
