This project will repair disaster survivors homes for families who have no means of recovery on their own. We will be teaching home repairs to individuals that have barriers to employment, giving them an opportunity for a new vocation and life. This project will Make Homes Home Again for both natural disaster survivors and personal disaster survivors.

Challenge

Disaster survivors who have no means of recovery on their own require help to have a safe and secure home. For those that live below the Federal Poverty Line outside help is needed to make the home repairs. Prior to the COVID pandemic most repairs were made using volunteer labor. Since March 2020 volunteer labor has not been available. A new program was developed to teach unemployed individuals that have a barrier to employment the construction trade while making disaster home repairs.

Long-Term Impact

Repairing a disaster survivors home with a new roof makes it more resilient to future storms. Repairing siding, drywall, flooring, etc. makes it a safe and secure environment for them to continue living in their community. The unemployed individual learns a trade that can provide financial independence for their life time. This program is Making Homes Home Again for both the natural disaster survivor and the personal disaster survivor.
