In our relentless devotion to assure that Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Kenya grow up to be productive adults, NR is looking to develop two new community groups of families over the next 12 months. These family groups will not only take these OVC into their homes to support and nurture in their adolescent years, but support each other to make the most of their experience collectively for all concerned in these families.

Challenge

With little to no options for support, children who have been orphaned or become vulnerable in rural areas of Western Kenya, more often than not end up stranded and left to take care of themselves and their younger siblings. Some of the communities that these children come from often struggle to take them in to care for them when it's hard to provide for their own children. Left to fend for themselves, these children are less likely to grow into healthy, self-sustaining adults.

Long-Term Impact

Through the first three years of our support, we will assist these caregiver groups in developing the means and methods of continuing their services well after our partnership has ended. After year three is completed successfully, NR will collaborate with these groups to develop a Sustainability Project in year four and five. Our goal is for these groups to raise up self-sustainable adults through their own financial support, so these children will in turn help their communities as adults.
