How will a child live, when born with a rare inherited disorder that prevents proper digestion of protein? Phenylketonuria (PKU) puts these children at risk of brain damage, mental retardation, or even death if they don't take specialized medical food every day. Palestine's PKU children need your help. Sponsor a PKU child in Gaza to provide daily medical food, a special PKU diet, regular blood monitoring, and the appropriate medical consultation they need to grow into healthy functioning adults.

Challenge

4 PKU children died, several others suffered brain damage when their ministries of health stopped supplying medical food in Gaza in 2017. This has resumed sporadically but only for newborns, not for children over three. Most PKU children get monthly blood tests but parents are not yet adjusting their diet & medical food intake. Suspension of US aid and COVID restrictions made this worse, but not impossible. RA delivered 4 shipments to Gaza's PKU kids. Help send more along with specialist's help.

Long-Term Impact

There's a desperate need for a long term solution to this crisis. 50 years after PKU became a treatable condition, another generation of children is needlessly suffering preventable brain damage. Our Tiger Team (volunteers across four continents) are bringing the NGO community into our PKU-TogetherWeCan program along with the Ministries of Health to close the gaps in care until sustainable international funding is assured. Sponsor one PKU child: donate $25/mo and ask nine friends to join you.
