Support the Alliance for a Sustainable Amazon's work in Peru! We conduct research and environmental education focused on insects, the tiny yet incredible creatures that run the rainforest. We study how bugs maintain the delicate ecological balance of the Amazon and aid in its restoration, and share this information with our local kids-It is they who depend most directly on the health of the rainforest and it is they who ultimately will decide its fate.
Challenge
Global warming, a major driver of fires in the Amazon, is also causing massive insect declines worldwide. How will these declines impact food production and affect sustainable livelihoods in the Amazon? How will insect declines affect the Amazon's resilience in the face of worsening annual fires? We simply don't know. Furthermore, a near-total lack of quality environmental education in our region complicates efforts to promote rainforest stewardship throughout the region.
Long-Term Impact
The Alliance for a Sustainable Amazon has a permanent research and education facility located right in the rainforest, and we're committed to working with our community in the long term to develop sustainable livelihoods while protecting natural resources that all future generations will also depend on. We believe that by working closely with kids and other stakeholders here we will be able to make meaningful change and secure a healthy, productive Amazon.
