The Uyghur diaspora is struggling on daily basis with very little help. Unemployment and poverty are on the rise among Uyghur communities. Microenterprise Program addresses this issue by assisting Uyghur small businesses and promoting economic growth, beginning with Turkey, which hosts over 50,000 Uyghur migrants and refugees.
Challenge
The most popular way for Uyghur migrants and refugees living in Turkey to gain income is to run small businesses. However, they lack access to collateral bank loans. Business and financial training is often beyond their reach. Many Uyghur business owners have been unable to expand or maintain their operations, and some have even been forced to close their doors, particularly since the pandemic. Unemployment and poverty are on the rise. Women and youth are the most impacted.
Long-Term Impact
Combining business loans with business coaching and mentorship, this program will assist Uyghurs, both aspiring entrepreneurs and current business owners, to start or expand their small businesses, allowing them to earn a living through self-employment while also supporting the broader Uyghur community by creating new jobs.
