This project was born from the need to address violence from a gender perspective. It is appropriate to activate actions that allow counteracting all forms of violence, especially in the current Covid-19 crisis, where the Colombian government took the mandatory quarantine measure that has lasted for more than two months. This project seeks to attend, prevent and activate routes in cases of domestic violence with 30 women and mothers who are caretakers and contribute to minimizing the risks.
Challenge
In Colombia, complaints of domestic violence during the quarantine period has doubled. Factors such as overcrowding, precarious economic conditions and isolation over a long period have been triggers for all kinds of violence against women and children. It has been shown during this period that being at home is not a safe place for everyone because isolation, lack of financial resources, lack of close support networks and fear of aggressors are factors that make it more difficult for women.
Long-Term Impact
This project will help to address and prevent situations of domestic and gender-based violence, and seeks to prevent risks and emotional impact as a result of physical, psychological and verbal abuse, and to activate the respective routes established by Colombian legislation for protection. It is also projected that women will assume themselves as strong, valuable persons, strengthening their self-esteem and capacities for economic self-management in order to satisfy basic needs in the home.
