The Second Artsakh War started a new wave of displaced people from Artsakh. Many school-aged children were left without homes and access to education. From the first days of the war, we hosted an Artsakh family and began fundraising for the project. Thanks to the donations of several organizations and individuals, it became possible to renovate 3 private rooms, a shared kitchen, and a washing room. At the moment two more dormitories need to be renovated in order to host 8 more people for a year.
Challenge
The Second Artsakh War started a new wave of mass displacement from Artsakh. A lot of families were left without homes and many school-aged children still need proper education. The Shirakatsy Fund and the lyceum decided to help those affected by the war despite the state and less than hospitable conditions of its dormitories. We have already reconstructed 3 dormitories and 2 families have already found their second home here. We need to repair 2 rooms for 2 more families with children to host.
Long-Term Impact
Since its establishment in 1990, the Lyceum hosted many displaced families for various occasions, but due to the lack of funding the dorms weren't renovated. After the renovations, the dorms will host students who need both shelter and proper education for now and for coming years. When the current students graduate, other gifted students from Artsakh and Armenia's regions will be granted the opportunity to study and live at Lyceum dormitories. This is our chance to give them a brighter future.
