Our community farming adventure at Ancestral Acres Farm and Garden is now 2 years old and 1.25 acres! Through BIPOC stewardship, and in kinship with Queer and Trans folks, we continue to grow and distribute food and seeds to those facing food insecurity and save precious seeds for future farming projects. We're dedicated to growing community on Indigenous lands through food sovereignty reclamation, creating healing spaces, skill sharing, and seed saving with people of the global majority.

Challenge

Food scarcity is prevalent within every city in the U.S. and after ongoing economic crises and the pandemic, more people are going hungry, especially within Indigenous and Black communities in states like New Mexico where COVID hit hardest in the last year. With little to no support on a state or federal level, Seeding Sovereignty has had to lean on our own local mutual aid efforts in Albuquerque to provide needed care and support to our neighbors. After a long winter, many are still in need.

Long-Term Impact

In addition to providing long-term mutual aid to our community in NM, we will provide a blueprint for folks to learn how to show up as guest land stewards on stolen lands, and provide an avenue of needed food resources to our neighbors. Not only will folks feel inspired, educated, and reflective on what we grow, but how we've grown it. Our goal is growing food and plant medicine with one another, but we are also cultivating and growing a relationship between ourselves, and the spaces we inhabit.
