Every month more than 200 children and youths living on the streets of Bangkok depend on Childline Thailand Foundation (CTF) for basic needs support. CTF provides services through our harm reduction shelter 'the Hub' and offers daily meals, showers, a safe space to rest and access to health services, counselling, education and life skills. Situated in the heart of Bangkok, the Hub has been helping children in street situations for 10 years.
Challenge
Poverty and domestic violence are the main reasons children in Thailand become homeless. They may be rejected from their families or choose to leave due to abuse. Living on the streets they face serious risks and challenges including sexual exploitation, trafficking, drug addiction, gang violence, health problems and malnourishment, neglect and depression. Thailand suffers from a lack of progressive social services and support systems, leaving children with nowhere to turn.
Long-Term Impact
Childline Thailand Foundation have worked tirelessly to provide child protection since 2003 and have established long term goals to reduce child homelessness in Bangkok. This project will directly benefit 200 youths by sponsoring their basic needs; an essential part of their well being whilst attending counselling, education and life skills programs. The long term effect is harm reduction for homeless children, providing an opportunity for them to improve their situations and begin a new life.
