This project will provide HIV testing kits (Alere Determine) to 30 rural Primary Health Centers in Anambra State, so that the people in these communities, can access HIV testing services. With this, we will continue to work towards getting those already infected with HIV to be enrolled and started on antiretroviral treatment and reducing the number of new HIV infections recorded in the state, the country and the world at large.
Challenge
Nigeria is ranked fourth behind South Africa, Mozambique and India, as the countries with the highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS globally. People who are living in the rural part of Nigeria, find it hard to access good healthcare services, including getting tested for HIV, knowing their status and accessing treatment if they're positive, as the primary health centers in those rural communities are not being provided with the requisite materials for HIV/AIDS services.
Long-Term Impact
Many people will find it easy to get tested for HIV and know their status, without having to spend much to transport themselves to the cities in order to get tested. This will help people in these communities to know more about HIV/AIDS, thus help in reducing the number of new HIV infections, as those who are infected without knowing, would have known that they're positive and started on antiretroviral therapy while those who are not infected, would be properly guided.
