The Foundation for Access to Rights - FAR is a Bulgarian NGO, which provides legal aid to migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and stateless people in situations of system-based obstacles in the access to their fundamental rights such as asylum, safety, liberty, healthcare, family unity, labor, prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment, etc. We work towards solutions that can ultimately enhance wider social justice.
Challenge
Bulgaria is a state with low administrative capacity and a populism-dominated political scene in terms of migration. As a result, migrants, asylum seekers and refugees face many difficulties regarding access to rights. Many individual cases are often overlooked or delayed by months due to complicated administrative procedures and integration barriers like access to housing, education, healthcare, work, etc. This vacuum means that they cannot exercise their fundamental rights.
Long-Term Impact
It is extremely hard for migrants, refugees and stateless persons to navigate the system in Bulgaria without legal aid. By providing legal aid to those in need, we help the migrants, refugees and stateless persons in Bulgaria to understand the system and to safeguard their human rights. That will help them settle their status and to concentrate on rebuilding their lives. Furthermore, the strategic legal breakthrough that we achieve set precedents and enhance social justice for all.
