CAMP IMANI is Summer Camp for 130 inner-city children ages 5-11 at PS 282. We provide fun filled activities in an enriching, secure environment. YOUR SUPPORT helps provides a full 5-day, 7-weeks of trips, athletics, dance, music, archery, and more. The Campers come from families who otherwise could not afford camp or the type of specialized instruction we Provide. Children deserve to play, build friendships and learn.

Challenge

With Summer Day Camps costing upwards of $1000 a week, children of low-income families often spend their summers in front of a TV, video games or on the streets. Elementary age children suffer most, as working parents keep them indoors and they miss opportunities to expand their out-of-school experiences, enjoy friends and learn to work in groups. Access to expensive programs such as our performing arts, karate, archery, and Steel Pan Band are not affordable & often unavailable in their school

Long-Term Impact

Studies have shown that a happy child is more likely to succeed, have high self-esteem, develop their leadership abilities and be more willing to help others. By sharing in arts & recreational activities at our Camp, children will perform better in school and develop a strong sense of community that will positively contribute to their home lives and strengthen their interactions with others. CAMP IMANI believes that all children can succeed if given access to appropriate skills and opportunities
