Over the past 14 years, a health partnership has developed between Mayo University Hospital in Ireland and Londiani Sub-county Hospital in Kenya. Shared learning exchanges in person and online are building skills and knowledge across both hospitals. An operating theatre & maternal health shelter have been built and put into use. Now is your chance to add your support to creating healthier communities & stronger health systems across a population of almost 1 million people in Kericho County.
Challenge
The health system in Kericho county was already stretched to the limit before the COVID-19 pandemic began and brought it to its' knees. Resources like PPE, soap and sanitiser run out and can't be replaced. People get ill with cholera from drinking dirty water, malaria from mosquito bites, pneumonia and eye infections from cooking over open fires. Mothers & babies lives are at risk living in remote areas unreachable by road. Emergency response and ambulances are often many kilometers away.
Long-Term Impact
We have the solutions but we need your help to put them in place. Our work makes a difference to peoples' live because it is built on strong partnerships. We partner with the Ministry of Health on their community health strategy. We learn from every partner and grow in the process. Your support can touch the lives of every family member from pregnancy and new-born care, to childhood vaccinations, to preventable diseases to non-communicable diseases and support through COVID-19.
