President Peter Bradley, of the Rotary Club of Edgware and Stanmore, will be doing a virtual sponsored walk at the end of April 2022 from one end of the UK to the other, Lands End to John'O'Groats, to raise money for My Yard and awareness of food poverty in the United Kingdom. His progress can be followed via the app Conqueror in real time on Google Earth. The charity "My Yard" not only provides food to those in need it takes into account dietary requirements and teaches people to cook healthily

Challenge

The cost of living crisis is being felt by many more people. Not only because of unemployment, the Covid pandemic and ongoing energy price rises but because those in employment are now finding that they also do not have enough money for food after paying their bills. The choice is sometimes between paying for heating or having food on the table.

Long-Term Impact

My Yard provides an allotment area where people are taught how to grow their own fruit and vegetables, essential life skills, and also teaches families how to budget and eat healthily on a low income. They provide cooking sessions to provide additional ideas and skills. Thus giving people the knowledge and ability to help themselves and have pride in what they achieve.
