Health Equity International/St. Boniface Hospital (HEI/SBH) is leading disaster relief efforts in the aftermath of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that devastated southern Haiti in August 2021. We are urgently evacuating survivors, transporting them to SBH, and providing them with life-saving surgical and emergency services. Your support will ensure we have the resources we need to provide 24/7 urgent care and manage the relief effort throughout the region.
Challenge
Damage from the earthquake has profoundly impacted southern Haiti's already limited capacity for surgical and emergency care. SBH was already operating at 120% capacity and is now receiving patients from hospitals throughout the region. Amid this crisis, HEI/SBH is also leading the COVID-19 response for the region; navigating ongoing unrest; and seeing nearly 500 daily patient visits. HEI must ensure we can care for every patient in need and save lives in the wake of the disaster.
Long-Term Impact
Supporting HEI/SBH means patients will not have to sacrifice essential medical care during an emergency. When patients have access to urgent care, they recover faster and suffer fewer long-term complications. Your support will also help strengthen HEI's role as a regional hub for disaster relief and recovery, and help our overall health system strengthening activities to enhance the region's capacity to respond to future disasters.
