Education changes everything - especially for kids living in the developing world. Hope Now is a home for 58 HIV-positive children including. Right now, we have 15 kids in college or a trade school and the rest are in an English medium school. Our oldest Roja is a senior at KIMS Medical College working toward a bachelor degree in Physical Therapy and will graduate in 2020. We pay 100% of all college costs. We are committed to educating our kids to ensure a stable life when they are ready.
Challenge
India has the third largest HIV epidemic in the world. In the developing world, access to healthcare is not free - if you have money you receive care, if not you don't. The Indian government is not able to care for HIV-positive children so when parents die, the children have few options. Hope Now provides a home, access to quality healthcare and an education through college for 58 HIV-positive orphans. Girls are particularly vulnerable in this patriarchal society. Hope Now provides a future.
Long-Term Impact
By educating every child we ensure they will become part of a community, contribute to the economy and serve as ambassadors for people living with HIV/AIDS. None of our kids will pass on the virus, which - over time - will diminish the spread of HIV/AIDS within India. Our kids will live a normal life span. With a quality education they can and will change India as they move to more progressive society that includes girls at every level. Our Hope Now girls will be a part of that change.
