More Afghan women and girls are graduating from high school and going on to university to become teachers, engineers, doctors, administrators and more. Many are from poor families. CHI provides high school and university students with scholarships so they can continue their studies at the private Yacoobi high schools or at university. The goal is to improve the standing of women and girls in society and to close the gap in gender equality.

Challenge

Afghanistan is a challenging places to be a female. Women and girls are the most marginalized and vulnerable and have the lowest literacy rate. There too few public schools for girls and private schools are often too expensive. High school graduates can struggle to pay for university education. Security issues mean women and girls must have safe transportation to attend school. Girls lacking education cannot find good jobs. Girls need to be given opportunity to help them succeed.

Long-Term Impact

Scholarships change lives! By providing female students with the funds necessary to attend school, you are giving them a path to a better life, a life with options. You are ensuring that these females will be literate, well educated and raising them up in society. Education is the way to closing the gap in gender equality. Students will be empowered with the necessary tools to make a difference for themselves and allow them to contribute toward Afghan society.
