Hepatitis C is one of the biggest causes of mortality in Pakistan which has the second highest burden of this disease in the world. Untreated Hepatitis C can lead to liver cirrhosis which can then lead to liver cancer. Our program includes blood testing, PCR confirmation test (which is done twice/treatment), medicinal treatment with regular followups upto 24 weeks to save the lives of Hep C patients .We also provide counselling and awareness to the local community and patient family members.

Challenge

Pakistan has the second highest burden of Hepatitis around the world. If untreated, this can develop into liver cirrhosis which eventually leads to liver cancer. Due to lack of awareness, use of non-sterilised material and lack of healthcare services in rural areas, the prevalence of Hepatitis often goes undetected until the disease reaches a point of severity like liver cancer.

Long-Term Impact

This project will provide free treatment to 100 Hepatitis Patients in rural Pakistan and save their lives before it turns into a terminal illness. It will reduce the disease burden in the community by preventing further viral transmission through early detection. We will provide awareness and counselling to the community at large to prevent further transmission of the disease, thus promoting health literacy in the region.
