This zakat-eligible project supports maternal and infant health for poor villagers and urban slum dwellers within Pakistan. Pakistan has the highest Infant Mortality Rate in the World and also accounts for 28 percent of the global Maternal Mortality Rate. 80 percent of Pakistan's infant deaths and over 33 percent of its maternal deaths are preventable - join the fight to save lives by sponsoring maternal and infant health within the HOPE USA hospital network!
Challenge
Consider the dire reality in Pakistan with regards to maternal and infant health: 1) A 2018 UNICEF report revealed that Pakistan has the highest Infant Mortality Rate in the world - newborns here face a one in 22 chance of dying within a month of birth. 2) Pakistan has a Maternal Mortality Rate of 127/100,000 which is 28 percent of the global total - every 37 minutes, one woman dies giving birth (14,000 woman every year). 80% of these infant deaths and 33% of maternal deaths are preventable!
Long-Term Impact
By establishing four hospitals in very poor communities which previously lacked medical facilities, HOPE USA has taken concrete steps towards reducing Pakistan's Maternal Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate. Over the course of 23 years, we have built a level of trust within the communities in which we operate which has enabled us to introduce education and vocational training into our overall poverty alleviation strategies. Our goal is to end poverty in Pakistan.
