The crisis in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector extends to institutions, 50 per cent of all rural communities and schools in IMO STATE do not have basic water supply and sanitation facilities while 50 per cent of health care facilities lack clean water and 88 per cent of them lack basic sanitation. Nearly 60 thousand children die before they start school from diseases caused by poor levels of access to WASH.
Challenge
Billions of People Lack Water When waters run dry, people can't get enough to drink, wash, or feed crops, and economic decline may occur. In addition, inadequate sanitation-a problem for 2.4 billion people-can lead to deadly diarrheal diseases, including cholera and typhoid fever, and other water-borne illnesses. Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor, is highly needed for use by local authorities in towns and cities that are in charge of public and community toilets. Without water is life.
Long-Term Impact
Water supply and sanitation projects have impacts on people's lives which extend farbeyond the expected improvements to health and reduction in time spent collectin gwater. impacts can also include significant improvements in household income levels and security of livelihoods. Increased school attendance occurs along with better child care, social and cultural benefits such as reductions in stress levels, increased status and self-esteem, better family and community relations.
