This project will provide blood pressure monitors, glucose monitors and routine medications to 200 indigent chronic kidney disease patients in Southern Nigeria, to promote self-monitoring and effective management of hypertension and diabetes.

Challenge

10% of Nigerians are living with chronic kidney disease and only a tenth of these can sustain the out-of-pocket payment for treatment. Hypertension and diabetes are the leading causes of kidney failure, and responsible for rapid progression of the disease. Kidney failure patients are burdened with the high cost of medications and renal replacement. Majority do not survive beyond three months after onset of dialysis often succumbing to complications of the disease including cardiac deaths.

Long-Term Impact

To improve the quality of life and survival of patients with chronic kidney disease
