Haiti has upward of 65% unemployment. The rate is even higher among women in the rural areas. Lambi Fund in partnership with local organizations will reinforce micro credit funding for women to build and maintain their small business enterprises. They will also receive training on managing their selected revenue streams. This project will create revenue for members of women-led grassroots organizations. It will increase their capacities to care for their families and build their communities.

Challenge

The unemployment rate in Haiti is estimated to be 67% with an inflation rate of 14% with he value of the currency plunging from HTG 39 gourde to the US dollar to 63 gourdes to $1. Revenue producing activities are essential to the survival of women who are not able to farm in rural Haiti. Eve when they farm women (madam Sara) are the most mobile purchasing needed essentials (toothpaste, non local produce, school supplies) to further their businesses and create revenue to sustain their family.

Long-Term Impact

In the last two years the Lambi Fund in partnership with farming organizations, created 1095 loans to women in rural Haiti. With income from these small businesses, 150 families will become self-sufficient.
