Access to information and knowledge is the most effective method of self-empowerment. This is why at Gulu Women's Resource Center we provides free informal education to women and girls, Safe space for all, Psychosocial support and GBV referral services in Northern Uganda. Our workshops on topics such as women's health, women's rights, domestic violence, positive parenting and financial literacy help women gain the skills and confidence they need to change their lives for the better.


Challenge

According to UNHS report 2017, 75% of women in rural areas in Uganda are illiterate, There is 49.9% GBV prevalence (Global Gender Gap 2020), making Uganda one of the most dangerous place in the world for women and girls, lack of access to information, public and community space for marginalized groups to meet and learn from is still a challenge. Yet, community space enables communities and civil society to gather, facilitate conversations, and develop solution to relevant and pressing issues.

Long-Term Impact

Providing information and education to women and their families, the cycle of poverty can be broken to enable brighter futures for Uganda women and girls - enabling women's dreams to become a reality. When equipped with knowledge, women understanding their rights resulting in new found confidence and empowerment. This enables them to know how best to protect and look after themselves and make informed decisions about their own lives, and those of their children
