Supporting education and improved health for 2,000 people across communities, health centers and schools, this project will provide training to community pump caretakers, WASH Committees and volunteers on preventive maintenance and rehabilitation of dysfunctional water wells. For areas without access to water supply and toilets, we will deliver on making them available. The project will expand access to safe drinking water, improved conditions of health and increased school attendance for kids.
Challenge
Safe drinking water and sanitation are crucial to health and development. Sierra Leone being one of the world's poorest countries, poorly functioning water supply systems have placed large disease burden on the people as well as the national health system that bears the costs of treating diarrhea. Globally, more than a million children dies as a result of unsafe drinking water, and many are made ill with diarrheal diseases; placing huge burden on the weak health system and school enrollment
Long-Term Impact
The long-term impact will: reduce water-related illness and number of school days missed; improve health and thereby, greatly increasing every child's chances of succeeding to survive and grow; whereas the entire community; including schools and health facilities will have optimal benefits. Our goal is to reach out and support 2000 people by providing access to safe drinking water as well as improved sanitation services like toilets. Our targets are part of the long-term impact in this project.
