Visible Impact has been advocating for safer and healthier menstruation by enhancing knowledge, skills and participation for both boys and girls. It also aims to advocate with the government for formulating and implementing policies to eliminate all forms of discrimination that occurs with girls and women during menstruation. Under the project of NSTB, various School based workshops on MHM, Youth activism, Research on Menstrual Health has been conducted in many districts across Nepal.
Challenge
Studies have shown that adolescent girls often lack appropriate information about their reproductive health and proper menstrual management, which directly impacts their schooling, affecting their academic progress. Only 42% of the girls in Nepal have access to a toilet with adequate privacy at school resulting in 53% of the students having poor menstrual health. Adolescent girls in rural settings and in particular girls in schools suffer most from stigma and lack of services
Long-Term Impact
Around 1000 girls every year will receive life skills-based information to make their menstruation safer and healthier, and can serve as catalyst for change in their home and community. Involving boys in conversations around menstruation is also one of the major objectives of the project. By reaching 1000 boys everywhere we hope to create a supportive environment for girls to exercise their menstrual health rights in schools and communities.
