The NDES Foundation provides support in education, health, and infrastructure to communities in Cameroon, empowering individuals and families to help themselves become self-reliant and economically sustainable. Mobile hand trucks, fitted with solar panels, are being provided to families as 're-charging stations' to support them and their wider communities.

Challenge

In Cameroon, women are the crucial wage earners as well as the primary caregivers. In rural areas, farming rarely provides enough income for families to survive. Providing women with a solar vehicle that will allow them to bring more of their harvest to market in addition to providing a secondary source of income as a charging station, is life-changing to families and communities. With outages lasting up to five days, these stations are keeping communities connected by providing reliable power.

Long-Term Impact

This project will fund ten additional solar-panel hand-truck systems for communities throughout the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, providing five families with a regular and secure source of income in addition to supporting the social and business communication needs of close to 4,000 individuals. Social support networks will be strengthened and business and work opportunities kept alive, both of which increase the life chances and opportunities of all those affected.
