We can affect long-term health outcomes in under-served communities by addressing the relationship between individuals and healthcare. We enable children to see education and healthcare as a right, regardless of finances and family status, by fostering ownership of well-being, and creating a welcoming place of comfort, safety and opportunity where children go to find a healthy future. Our focus on individual education & health allows us to address the often overlooked girls health needs as well.

Challenge

Haiti is a class based society where private finances and family connections provide access to education and healthcare. Children who lack privilege don't believe they are entitled to education and healthcare. To the vast majority of children in Haiti, a hospital or clinic is not a place for healthy living, but rather as a place of trauma and illness. Thumbprint to Healthprint encourages all children to learn about living a healthy life and caring for themselves, their community and families.

Long-Term Impact

As adults, these children, who have learned to be in control of their well being, including their health, nutrition and physical environment, can support healthy families and their community. Changing how an entire generation feels about education and healthcare can have lasting, sustainable effects on future generations.
