Almost completely deforested, Haiti is vulnerable to landslides, erosion, and climate change. Let's Plant Trees in Haiti, Together! will partner with grassroots partners in rural Haiti to plant trees and stopping soil erosion while producing food.

Challenge

Haiti is more than 98% deforested. Seven trees are cut down for every tree planted. In the absence of forest cover, when a tropical storm hits Haiti, the consequences can be catastrophic: valuable topsoil is washed away, landslides destroy homes and lives. Forests generate their own rainfall without which, crops wither and die. Climate change makes things worse: droughts are longer, rainy seasons shorter and more intense. Haiti needs trees. Let's plant trees in Haiti, Together.

Long-Term Impact

In the nine communities to be impacted by this project, planting trees will reduce soil erosion, and increase soil productivity. Once mature, these trees will provide much needed food to the community and will increase income. This project directly serves some 3,500 people in nine different organizations that will engage in reforestation as a result of this project. Indirect beneficiaries will exceed 35,000. Lets plant trees in Haiti!
