Fundacion Corazonistas allows access to high proffesional education as teachers for 20 young people from the riverside communities of the Alto Amazonas in Yurimaguas (Peru). From the care of the cultural roots and the language of the 3 ethnic groups present in the intercultural home "Br. Policarpe" it is allowed that indigenous young people obtain professional training as teachers for the promotion of their native peoples

Challenge

Amazonian native communities do not have teachers to educate their children from their own language and culture and for the promotion of indigenous peoples. Indigenous young people live days away and do not have the resources to access higher education in teaching. The Peruvian state does not offer residences for native young students

Long-Term Impact

The training of native teachers will provide indigenous peoples with quality education based on respect for the Amazonian language and culture. Primary education in the original language enables children to full develop their capacities for the promotion of their indigenous peoples. The training of their own teachers constitutes the first step for the full development of the Amazonian native peoples
