The agriculture lab will be the first Soil Testing and Crop Pathology Lab for women farmers in India. The Lab will be built in Mhaswad, a small drought-prone village in Satara district, Maharashtra. The lab will train women farmers to fight climate change through understanding the soil and its quality, reduce agriculture costs, increase crop yield and increase their income. The lab will train and provide agri services to more than 100,000 women farmers within 50 km radius.
Challenge
In India, 80% of agricultural workers are women. There are currently more than 200,000 women farmers living in Mann & Khatav districts that do not have access to agricultural scientific knowledge. They are unaware of their soil quality or what nutrients their soil needs for it to produce a healthy crop. The closest agricultural testing lab is 60 kms away & farmers cannot afford the fuel costs to travel so far. This project will ensure over 100,000 women farmer get access to soil and water testing.
Long-Term Impact
This project will ensure that 50,000 women farmers improve their soil quality, increase their crop yield and therefore their incomes. Over 3 years, we aim to ensure that these 50,000 women farmers and more adopt organic farming to ensure that their soil's health is safeguarded for years to come.
