Your support will help to provide the construction materials that volunteers will use to work side-by-side with future homeowners to start building new Habitat for Humanity homes in Portland and Gresham. Giving to Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East means that your donation stays local and helps build Habitat homes in your community.

Challenge

In the past year, Habitat has seen a 100% increase in the number of qualified families coming to us for help. Many families and individuals in our community can't afford to pay for one of their most basic needs - a place to live. Oregon is the second least affordable state in the nation for renters. Because of this, low-income families in Multnomah County average one move every 15 months. For families with children, it takes four to six months to recover academically from each school transfer.

Long-Term Impact

Homeownership has a large effect on social and economic stability in the Portland metro area. Compared to renters of the same age, income, and race, homeowners are 12 times wealthier. Their children are 35% less likely to receive welfare, 20% more likely to graduate from high school, and 62% more likely to go to college. Your donation not only helps build homes, it helps build successful futures for families.
