This project will increase access to specialized care for 300 poor children with cancer in Uganda. This will be achieved by providing accommodation, food, daily transport to hospital and counselling services to the most vulnerable children who have traveled far away from their homes with their care givers to seek treatment.

Challenge

Children with cancer in Uganda can only receive specialized treatment at the Uganda Cancer Institute in the capital city in Kampala. Poor children with cancer from far away rural districts travel to the city for care. The costs of accommodation, food, travel to hospital etc are a barrier to receiving the services and over 50% of the children default on treatment and return to the villages before completing treatment. This results in unnecessary death of the children from curable cancers.

Long-Term Impact

The project will enable 200 children with cancer to complete their treatment and have a good chance of getting cured from cancer every year.
