This project will build a medical clinic to serve the 500 members of Nyitawuta village and its surrounding communities. currently there is no clinic in the community and members have to walk long distance to assess an health facility. The roads to the community is cut off during the rainy season. Pregnant women do not go for antenatal delivery of babies is at the mercy of one untrained birth attendant with nothing to assist during child birth. Most children are malnourished or have defect.
Challenge
Nyitawuta is a village in the Volta region of Ghana. HOCAP began working with the village in 2015, and since then has completed a number of projects, including training on bee keeping and building a dam for community farming irrigation. The community leaders have asked for assistance in building a medical clinic. Right now, medical facilities are very far away and they can be cut off during the rainy season when roads wash out. This makes it impossible for women to get antenatal care.
Long-Term Impact
Upon completion, the medical clinic will provide local medical care to the 500 members of Nyitawuta and the surrounding communities. This nearby care will allow for more consistent antenatal care for mothers during pregnancy, addressing a chronic problem of malnourishment in children. The local care will also be able to address problems with local sicknesses, such as malaria and now COVID-19. HOCAP is already talking to the local government to ensure continued logistical support for the clinic.
