We are working together with St Martins School Kibagare under the Nilinde Nijijenge program to work and support families within the community through sustainable home projects where families are classified and supported with a goal to transform the needy and vulnerable households to be self-reliant and creating a safe environment for the women and children.

Challenge

Women from the Kibagare slum have created cooperatives that have been pivotal for this community. The groups have grown to 18 state registerd groups with over 280 members- that is over 280 households who have an income and can provide for themselves. This community has no safe space to meet and conduct their daily activities and we want to raise funds to build a community center.

Long-Term Impact

This community which has more than 27,000 residents need support but ultimately they will want to work and be independent, be proud and be able to support themselves and their families and educate their children. The wheel turns slowly but it turns, and the more we can educate and create sustainable homes, the safer and more prosperous this slum community will become. The approach is to create sustainability and the community center will be pivotal to achieving this goal.
