Education and action is needed to create sustained change. Everyone at our Learning Centers, health clinics, workshops, events, private schools, and listeners to Radio Meraj, get messages about the environment. We run projects that directly address climate change such as tree and shrub planting, clean up campaigns and resource management at centers. Individual action is encouraged e.g. buying and planting a tree. Mindsets need to change and everyone needs to take action.

Challenge

Many people in Afghanistan lack knowledge of what they can do to help with climate change and that what they do will make a difference. People need education as well as projects that they can be involved in. Our projects are locally led and include greening Afghanistan and cleaning up/preventing pollution. People also need role models of environmental activism, both individuals and organizations. The Afghan Institute of Learning models environmental awareness and action to all people.

Long-Term Impact

Everyone needs education on climate change, its effects and what their role is in solving the problems. Afghans will gain an understanding of the problems and how to change their behavior and the opportunity to engage directly in environment projects in their communities. We all need to do our part in our own homes and communities to mitigate the effects of climate change and for environmental concerns to become a part of everyday thinking and action.
