Step Ahead empowers poor, vulnerable, and at-risk women to build their micro-enterprises- learning together in their local communities through mentoring and training. Step Ahead works with children in Bangkok's largest slum community of Klong Toey and Southern Thailand with family-based orphan care serving the communities impacted by the South-East Asian tsunami. With Step Ahead, Thai women and children discover hope and a future.

Challenge

Poor women and children are vulnerable and at-risk of exploitation. Poverty and lack of education robs them of opportunities many others take for granted. Whether Bangkok's largest slum community of Klong Toey with 100,000 inhabitants, or rural villages in Southern Thailand the challenge remains: helping the poor, vulnerable, and at-risk step ahead into freedom through the increased family strengthening of economic opportunities, mentoring, and education.

Long-Term Impact

Families will find increased economic opportunities, and emotional and social growth that means more security for their children and a positive developing community. From mothers with a stronger economic situation able to provide better for their families, to young children who enter school with a strong early childhood preparation even in English, and teens who have discovered mentoring friends in the staff, while learning English and computer skills that give them all more hope to step ahead.
