Girls growing up in poor communities in Thailand don't have access to the training they need to look after themselves. As a result, they often find themselves in low-paid, unstable work, or the sex trade, damaging their self-esteem and their health. You can help 5,000 girls protect themselves and their futures by supporting a schools workshop in the poor Northeast of Thailand. We equip girls with the skills to recognize their rights, protect themselves from harm, and plan for a better future.

Challenge

With a population of 21 million and high levels of poverty, many young women and girls from the Isaan region of Northeast Thailand are forced to migrate to Bangkok to support their parents and family back home. However, their limited qualifications, education and lack of skills cluster them in menial labor, street selling and, for the most desperate, the sex industry. This gradually wears on their self-esteem, their confidence and their health, leaving them feeling like second class citizens.

Long-Term Impact

This project will provide support and training for 5,000 teenage girls, who will be encouraged to share their new knowledge with their friends and families, becoming ambassadors for empowerment and change in their communities.
