According to a recent research, the poverty rate in Uruguay increased 38% in only the first three months of the pandemic. Our Center for Attention to Children and Families (CAIF) has the aim of attending the needs of more than 250 boys and girls (from 18 months to 3 years) and their families at social risk in Montevideo. We focus on comprehensive care for families, with our interdisciplinary team that seeks to meet the multiple and increasing needs of children and their families

Challenge

Mensajeros de la Paz-Uruguay manages two CAIF Centers in the Paso de la Arena and Jardines del Hipodromo neighborhoods. Two very different neighborhoods, but where a large number of people live in a situation of social vulnerability. The current COVID-19 pandemic has focused on this social group, exposing the vulnerabilities it faces and the insufficient and often deficient resources and social benefits available to it.

Long-Term Impact

Mensajeros de la Paz has been successfully providing the CAIF program since 2009, and we wish to continue its progress. We want to create a safe environment with a positive atmosphere for vulnerable groups to receive support. We want them not only to survive but to thrive.
