Ubunye Educare Centre (Ubunye) is an Integrated Early Childhood Development (ECD) Programme in Dunoon Township, Cape Town. The purpose of the programme is to provide quality Grade R early childhood education, routine paediatric health check-ups and nutritional needs for 120 children aged 5 - 6 from Dunoon Township enrolled in our care.

Challenge

1. Limited access to Early Childhood Development Centre. The local government lacks adequate, effective, and proactive support to offer quality centre-based ECD services. 2. Limited access to healthcare services: In 2016, the City of Cape Town opened a day hospital and temporary clinic that provide reproductive health advice. Despite the efforts made the services are still limited. 3. Poor parenting skills among parents and guardians. There is a lack of knowledge and support from parents.

Long-Term Impact

1.At least 120 children enrolled into Ubunye Educare Centre annually 2. 120 children aged 6 years graduating from pre-school into local primary schools in Dunoon Township every year 3. 120 healthy and physically fit children annually 4. A safe and secure playground within Dunoon Township for children to play 5. Improved self-esteem and social skills among 120 children every year 6. Employ and retain 8 staff members from Dunoon and surrounding communities.
