Your donation will help support 1000 rural women farmers in Gulu and Nwoya districts. When women are provided with good quality seeds, improved farm inputs and fertilizers, their yields improve, so are their earnings and family well being. The earnings are usually reinvested into food, education and healthcare. They are also able to feed their families with nutritious foods, buffer against illness, hunger and nurture the soil.

Challenge

Its a bitter irony that the majority of the world's poorest and hungriest people are smallholder farmers. More than 80% of smallholder farmers in Northern Uganda are locked in the cycle of poverty and hunger because they are unable to grow enough food to feed their families, lack access to good quality seeds and improved farm inputs. Women are the main farmers of food but need support to improve crop diversity and productivity. Other women lack access tom land but can farm collectively.

Long-Term Impact

This project will help more than 1000 women farmers prosper. When farmers prosper, their communities prosper too. Children will have more food to eat, attend school more often and have better performances. They are also healthier and are less likely to suffer from stunting and other developmental delays. When farmers have extra income, they invest it in education, they build businesses in their communities and they help neighbors in need. They also practice sustainable farming techniques.
