This project will prevent maternal and child mortality by providing at least four(4) sessions of antenatal care services, which involves health education, physical examination, vitamin and mineral supplements, important laboratory investigations, malaria IPT etc for 1000 rural economically disadvantaged women in Iseyin LGA, Oyo state Nigeria. We will also distribute birthing consumables to all the enrolled pregnant women within our target community.

Challenge

Non use of skilled birth attendants contribute more to preventable daily maternal deaths of over 800 women globally (Licentto et al,2010). With high level of poverty in the country, financial cost could pose barriers to the use of ANC services by some women, particularly the most vulnerable (Fagbamigbe and Idemudia,2015)

Long-Term Impact

The project will break the barriers of non utilisation of antenatal care services as a result of poverty by providing all the drugs, consumables and other antenatal neccessities at a free cost. It will also prevent maternal and child mortality through retraining of participating health workers for effective skills in maternal and child care; prevention of birth related complications.
