Urgent needs: Children with malnutrition, injuries or illnesses such as cholera need access to nursing and medical services. Authorities have identified over 10 illegal orphanages where over 500 children are being abused or neglected. Authorities need support in reuniting the children with their families. The prevalence of malnutrition and cholera are increasing. Families need access to food staples and tools to clean their water.
Challenge
Within the current environment in Haiti, needs are increasing due to: extreme inflation, continuing unrest, closed hospitals (due to lack of power), increasing cholera and other illnesses, limited access to emergency supplies or support (due to: lack of circulation of goods and NGO storage depots having been looted), and many non-profits have closed services.
Long-Term Impact
Families gain health knowledge and access to an internationally-recognized Sawyer water filter to promote the long-term health of families (avoiding water-borne illnesses such as cholera). Families become empowered and trained to support their child's success and recovery, post years of trauma or abuse.
