This Christmas, please consider making a gift that will make a world of difference to disabled children in Kenya. HATW and our partners at the Disability Community Centre have plans to build new classrooms at Irindiro Special School to help educate disabled children in an environment properly equipped to meet their needs. But we need your help to fully furnish the classrooms for a quality educational experience. This Christmas, why not give the most enduring gift of all - the gift of education.

Challenge

Disability shouldn't be a barrier to education and a fulfilling life. Yet in Kenya, disability is often viewed as a 'curse' and many disabled children are hidden away by their families. For those disabled children who go to school, few are educated at special schools capable of properly managing disability. One such school is Irindiro Special School. But with high demand for places, Irindiro is heavily overcrowded, hindering lesson delivery and meaning the school must turn away many children.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide the classroom furnishings needed to allow the newly constructed classrooms to be used, reducing overcrowding at Irindiro. As the furnishings will last many years, this will not only benefit all current 115 pupils, but will support new intakes of pupils year after year, impacting hundreds of children over the lifetime of the furnishings. The project will also help increase Irindiro's capacity, towards fully meeting demand for places within the school's catchment area.
