Pitch In For Baseball & Softball (PIFBS) is a non-profit organization that provides new and gently used baseball/softball equipment to kids in the United States and around the world who want to play ball but lack the equipment to do so. PIFBS' programs reduce barriers to play and promotes youth development by providing equipment directly to leagues, schools, and organizations around the world to start, continue, and/or expand their programs.
Challenge
Founded in 2005, Pitch In For Baseball believes that baseball is an effective tool for youth development. Not only does baseball give kids a chance to be a kid and play, but it also helps create healthy communities, break down barriers, and instill valuable life lessons. But safe equipment is not available to everyone due to cost and accessibility, and, in some countries, equipment is not even available to buy. PIFB has donated more than $5 million in equipment helping 500,000+ kids play ball.
Long-Term Impact
At its simplest, baseball is a game that is played by boys and girls in backyards, country fields, sandlots, and streets. Baseball is also an important vehicle for youth development - instilling values such as teamwork, respect, how to win and lose, and helps to build self-confidence. Yet unfortunately, baseball is not accessible to everyone. Pitch In For Baseball directly reduces one barrier to play by providing the necessary equipment to leagues, schools, and organizations around the world.
