The Tributaries mental health team provides mental health and trauma healing training for community workers worldwide. Training increases awareness of the causes and symptoms of emotional trauma and mental illness. Caregivers learn ways to care for others who have experienced trauma. and how to care themselves as they help others.
Challenge
There is a great need worldwide for mental health services, especially trauma. But those resources can be hard to access, expensive, or nonexistent - especially in the developing world. Often, mental illness and trauma is misunderstood and as a result people experiencing these issues can suffer additional trauma, stigma, and abuse.
Long-Term Impact
We equip health care workers, religious leaders, orphanage workers and social workers, police, and teachers, and others to better understand and serve people in their communities. Training includes networking with local contacts and agencies so people in need can be connected with the proper resources. With advanced training and follow-ups, facilitators are identified and equipped to continue training.
