As adolescents work to regain lost opportunities from Covid-19, social barriers remain high for Moroccan girls. Your help can empower a marginalized teen girl to realize her rights and steer her education. The Soar Solution helps girls understand their Value, Voice, Body, Rights and Path in safe spaces across Morocco, equipping them with awareness of their rights, menstrual security and the confidence to speak up. A Soar Girl will carry these rights for life. Doesn't every girl deserve this?
Challenge
The World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap ranked Morocco 144 out of 156 countries in 2021. Socio-economic barriers often get in the way of making education equal and accessible for girls. Only 26% of girls in rural Morocco attend school versus 79% of boys (Borgen Project, 2017). These girls need a safe space to nurture their self worth, self agency and determination to achieve success. In 2021, 92% of Soar Girls were first generation college students, bucking barriers that stood in their way.
Long-Term Impact
The Soar Solution helps 1,000+ marginalized girls every year realize their core values and provides skills for life: Knowing their rights with the skills to speak up allows girls to become informed self-advocates to finish their education, increase their employability, and be vocal against injustices. In 2021, only 0.44% of Soar Girls married underage compared to the national average of 14%. Further, 100% of Soar graduated girls went on to higher education compared to 39.05% of girls nationwide.
