We were contacted by the Kafunjo Community Project through the connection of a Poured Out volunteer! They are an amazing community group who hosts a school and orphanage for children in Uganda. They are currently undertaking building a secondary school, free clinic, and expanding their agricultural projects to better serve their community. They are in need of a clean water system to supply all the children at the school and orphanage with drinking water.

Challenge

The challenge facing the Kafunjo community in Uganda is that they have to travel a far distance down the mountain their school is located on to gather water in buckets. The students currently spend 3 hours a day collecting water. This water is collected from a spring and is not sanitized before they use it. This is a health risk as well as a huge time commitment that takes students away from their school, homework, and homes.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact of this project is improved health for all members of the community. Each student and community member will have safe, clean drinking water which will reduce health risks and save money on health issues. This also significantly impacts the students at the school's education. Students will no longer have to collect water which will allow them to focus on their education and be involved in other activities benefitting their long term goals and outcomes.
